Porto Venere, the Cinque Terre and the three islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, are a Unesco World Heritage Site. This video shows you the view from the sea as you arrive at the church of St Peter, built in Gothic Genoese style. Inside one can still see what is left of a Roman pagan temple dedicated to Venus of Ericina. Towering above the adjacent narrow tower-houses built by the Republic of G...

Porto Venere (harbour of Venus) together with the Cinque Terre is a World Heritage Site, situated on the Ligurian coast between Pisa and Genova. Long before the powerful maritime Republic of Genoa , 900 years ago, recognised its strategic and economic importance, the Romans settled here and used Porto Venere as a port of call on their routes to Spain and Gaul. On the left you see the church of ...

Tourists are enjoying Vernazza, one of the five Cinque Terre villages along the Ligurian coast. Perfect weather for the many hikes the Cinque Terre offer, from Levanto to Monterosso, to Vernazza and Corniglia. A great walk from Corniglia to Manarola through olive groves and vineyards and then on to Riomaggiore and Porto Venere.
Gambero Rosso, Vernazza, Food, glorious food

One of my favourite dishes is fish baked in the oven in a salted crust, which keeps the fish moist. Today while visiting Vernazza I saw Claudio of the Gambero Rosso restaurant take this fabulous dish to one of the tables. Not only are the Cinque Terre famous for their extensive network of hiking trails, Cinque Terre wines and glorious food, but also for their hospitality and quaint villages so ...

Had a similar flood occurred centuries earlier, the residents might have ended up just leaving the dirt and rocks in place and abandoning the buried first floors of these buildings.

We visit 5 Terre last week (July 2015) and lived in San Bernadino. From there we did some hikeing tours to Vernazza. It is unbelievable to see that images after walking through Vernazza. We heard about the hevy storm and it's aftereffects but to realise the real damages was'nt impossible. We bow us to the power of the local inhabitants. A great achievement that has been accomplished here!

Hi Bea, I meant to tell you for a long time now THANK YOU for shooting and posting this video! I was part of it (the blonde with piggy tails wearing red, former student of Tiziana Tacconi, the teacher leader). I notice there are a few video posted (thank you thank you) was wondering why this one, which depicts the very start of the Mandala, is called part two and not part one...??? :-)

I had the opportunity to see 5 Terre on September 25th, 2012...11 months exactly from that fateful day. I saw only charm and beauty...congrats to the citizenry of Vernazza and other benefactors for all their work...the town was amazing. :)

that is not right...and is funny how UNESCO is mentioned on this video like they will do something...is sad that such a beautiful place don't get help to recover. The communities of Cinque Terre are pullling together to recover this place and then the government will get all the credit, huh?

When we were there last week we didn't know how bad the damage had been until after we'd returned to Levanto and saw the exhibition. The recovery is amazing. I'm disgusted, however, that neither UNESCO nor the Italian government has provided any funding or assistance: It has all been done by the local communities of Cinque Terre pulling together.
